Setting the Foundation Stone of Battergi Medical City with Investment Volume of EGP 8 Billion)2 October, 2016 ( 2 October, 2016 )
Middle East Healthcare Company (Saudi-German Hospital) has announced the agreement signed by the board of directors, to provide the administrative supervision of Batterjee Medical City that is established in Alex West – Alexandria, and which will be under the trademark of Saudi-German Hospital.
Moreover, the project consists of 4 phases which costs 8 bn EGP. The first phase of Batterjee Medical City is to establish a general hospital that include a 300-bed which cost EGP 1.5 bn, while the staff residence costs EGP 110 million. The second phase of the project is to include 7 specialized hospitals to cost EGP 5 – 6 bn, in addition to staff residences that is to cost EGP 20 million for each hospital. The third phase is to include a 220-clinic medical tower with an estimated cost of EGP 200 million. The fourth phase is to include an Academy for Medical Science & Technology with an investment cost of EGP 700 million.
Mohamed Hany Khodeir – Chief Executive of General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) has emphasized that establishing such a medical city in Egypt by Saudi investors with a capital of EGP 8 billion reflects Egypt’s position on the global economic map. It also indicates that Egypt possesses various potentials to attract investors, and these kinds of projects reflect the success of the government’s plan to boost its economy, and regain the confidence of investors on the regional and international level.
Furthermore, Khodeir has also mentioned that this huge project in Alexandria has several benefits. Among these benefits is that it enhances the added value of the medical tourism in Egypt to serve the MENA region and Africa, since it is located in one of the most popular touristic cities in the Mediterranean Basin. According Khodeir, this medical city provides hundreds of job opportunities, and contributes in producing distinguishable Egyptian medical calibers, as the project includes an Academy for Medical Science and Technology that supports the health system in Egypt.
Sobhi Batterjee, founder and CEO of Saudi German Hospital Group, has expressed his delight of groundbreaking the Batterjee Medical City, which is considered the largest integrated medical city in Egypt. Batterjee added “We trust the Egyptian medical sector and we always keen on providing special medical services. We believe that we have a responsibility towards social care programs.”
Alaa Salem – Chairman of Barons Court and Ledgers (owning company of Alex West) has emphasized that Alex West project is considered as the extension of Alexandria Governorate’s investments, touristic sites, and services. According to Salem, Alex West is an integrated investment that includes huge active investments, and provides more than 10 thousand direct job opportunities.
Salem added that Alex West project follows the state’s development strategy, in terms of developing and advancing the regions surrounding large governorates, through establishing and implementing different service projects. Moreover, he mentioned that the project of Baterjee Medical City is an added value to Alex West Resort, since it belongs to Beit Al-Baterjee, one of the best medical institutions in the Arab region with international high-standard medical services, which possesses several achievements.
The establishment of Batterjee Medical City’s general hospital in Alexandria is expected to be completed by 2019, which will provide specialized medical services for Egyptian Citizens who live in the northern cities in Egypt, in addition to visiting patients from Libya, since Batterjee Medical City is located 5 hours away from the land road of Libya-Egypt borders.
It is worth mentioning that Middle East Healthcare Hospital (Saudi-German Hospital) is in charge of the administrative supervision of the hospitals owned by Beit Al-Batterjee Medical Company outside Saudi Arabia, according to agreements between the two parties.
