Saudi German Hospital-Cairo applies the latest international techniques for benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment – 18 October 2017

The Saudi German Hospital has announced using the latest methods to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia and urinary retention through interventional catheterization without surgical intervention.

Interventional catheterization is about inserting a micro-catheter into the prostate artery then; very fine granules are injected into the artery, resulting in a reduction in the size of the prostate allowing urine flow, it was first operated on a 64 year old man that suffered from the reoccurring inability to control urination as well as urinary retention twice during this year, the surgery took about 1 and half hour under local anesthesia.
This treatment could be used to cure any prostate regardless the size, Moreover, the use of interventional catheter is suitable for elderly patients who suffer from other diseases which prevents them from traditional surgery such as heart disease and aging, in addition to the patients who are can’t go under general anesthesia, knowing that Egyptian patients suffering from enlarged prostate has reached 60% of the population over 60 years of age.
